San Diego's pioneers reside permanently in this beautiful and very authentic cemetery. Stroll among the headboards and crosses of El Campo Santo and learn how some of these pioneers came to be in their final resting place.

1769-1878: First Mission and Royal Presidio founded under Spanish rule. 1821-1837: Plaza and first houses established a village under Mexican government. 1840-45: Trade Cowhide and Tallow based economy was exercised. 1846-5 1: Transition from Mexican govemment to U.S. acquisition. Military occupation. Delineation of US/Mexican border. 1868-1872: Expansion to Alonzo Horton's "New Town". Transference of county records away from Old Town to New Town.
