San
Diego wildfires 2007 Escondido, California
The Great Firestorm - personal account with great photos

Scroll down to see some really great photos a friend sent to me. Monday Oct. 22 Shades of the Past! Four years ago the wildfires were raging in San Diego. Here in Escondido I could see the flames heading towards us and we had packed and were ready to flee. Same thing now. Today the fires came close enough that we actually did pack the "critical" items and leave – we went from North Escondido over to La Jolla on the coast to stay with Lisa's mom. We were pretty sure the wildfires wouldn't make it to there. Funny thing is that three computer systems(just one monitor) are now "critical" items. Plus keyboards and router and modem etc. Computer stuff, important papers and photos are what "must" be saved. Oh and of course my 13 year-old son’s X-Box system and Halo game! Over in La Jolla, the wealthy folks staged a run on the stores for basic goods. Von's was sold out of bread milk and eggs by 4pm. Funny, because they were in no danger at all over on the coast there. Guess that's how the wealthy got that way, though – they’re always thinking ahead and storing up whatever they can. Tuesday Oct. 23. We're back home now, but more wildfires have started. Yesterday Escondido had fires east and south. Today there are fires to the North as well. We're virtually surrounded and the air quality sucks! Yack, yack, gotta go watch the news. Things are just changing really fast here. These winds are crazy. Thursday Oct. 24 Things have settled down considerably here. I'm actually able to do some work. Yesterday i was either glued to the TV or going around my house wetting things down, trying to sweep up anything that an ember might have ignited. I figured it the firemen had to choose what house to try and save I wanted mine to look like a strong candidate! Friday Oct. 25 The Santa Ana is dying down so that's a relief. We should start seeing some onshore winds that will bring a little moisture. The humidity since Saturday Oct 20 has been in the single digits throughout the entire county. Below are some pics a friend sent me. |
