This month (August) we are featuring JAPAN. The art of Japan is often characterized as being particularly elegant in its simplicity. These Japanese crests reflect that elegance and simplicity of design. The "crest" or "badge" is the expressive form of Japanese heraldry (like a family coat of arms). These family crests were used on everything including the family clothes. The patterns were woven or embroidered on each garment in five places: on each sleeve, on each breast, and at the back of the neck.
