wb1: Granary Guardian. Ironwood, pigments. L: 44" (112 cm). Late 20th century. Modang Dayak, East Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia.

Interesting intermarriage collaboration amongst Modang and Kenyah Dayaks. The dragon (Aso) head was carved by noted Modang carver Wang Beng (one of the last Modang artists using the traditional style) and added to the structure of a Kenyah noble family's rice granary. The village is the home of Wang Beng's wife. Images of the original Kenyah rice granary are included.
