2923: Shrine Guardian. Medium wood, traces of pigments. H: 15”, W: 18.5”, D: 8”. 19th century.
Kayanic Dayak complex, East Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia. The figure, probably representing a
dragon or dog, served as a guardian for the deceased ancestor. It was cut from the end of the shrine.
It split in three sections and was glued back together prior to leaving Indonesia.
