Seat 1: Chief’s Seat. Hardwood, beads. L: 30”, W: 9’, H: 8.5”. 19th to early 20th century. Kayanic Dayak complex, East Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia. A very elegant wood seat in the form of a dragon (Aso). Collected during the Dutch colonial period. Ex: da Silva collection, Den Hague. Exhibited in 1973 at Museum Delft, The Netherlands and listed in the catalog of this early important show on Borneo and Indonesian tribal art (ID #K355).
