W1: Ritual Mask (Hudoq). Wood. H: 15”, W: 11”, D: 5”. 19th century. Kayanic Dayak complex, East Kalimantan, Borneo Island, Indonesia. Extremely rare example with archaic style carved nose/mouth. The bridge of the nose looks like a bamboo shoot. The paint and ears were removed in the past and then the mask was stored for re-use. Without the paint and ears, it resembles masks from the Northwest Coast American Indians. Ex: Wallace collection, Los Angeles.
