The Art of Patricia Justiniani McReynolds

Biography

Artist Background:

Patricia Justiniani McReynolds has exhibited in San Diego since the late 1960s. She has made works in oils, pastels, acrylics, ceramics, mixed media, and sculptures in fired clay, poured cement, and bronze.

A recent exhibition was at the Ocean Beach Coop Gallery, San Diego, from January to April of 2006. In June of 2006, she published: Folk Tales of the Pacific Rim, illustrated with acrylic paintings.

Artist Statement:

"As a Professor of Art History, I had a passion for teaching my specialization of the Traditional Arts. And as an artist too, I have always been driven to make art. I have fulfilled this in many ways, recently in a series of folk tale illustrations. My current flower-symbol paintings not only reflect glazes flowing over forms, but also my background in ancient Native American and Mexican art, which demands a visionary meaning behind form and color.

I believe that the desert is our last stronghold of peace and harmony. So I paint the flower as a symbol of today’s endangered environment. Alone or surrounded by threatening compositional elements, the flower also represents the gentle strength of the human soul, and the belief that style and technique should reflect a human touch."
